Supernova 2006x in Spiral Galaxy M-100

This is an 11 minute exposure with an STL-1301E CCD camera taken thru Kopernik's 20-inch F/8.1 Ritchey Chretien Cassegrain telescope at 4:30UT on May 1, 2006. The field of view is about 16x13 arc minutes with North at the top.

M-100 is a face-on spiral galaxy in the Coma-Virgo galaxy cluster;

Supernova 2006X:

Supernova 2006X is a Type Ia discovered on February 4th, 2005. It was independently discovered by Shoji Suzuki (Japan) and M. Migliardi (Italy). Its maximum magnitude was about 15.1 and it measures 16.7 in the Kopernik image.
